Being in the construction industry for more than 25 yrs, the company’s founder, Adam Benning, developed a moral dilemma about some of the unfortunate realities of the residential renovation industry. With excessive waste filling up the landfills and extensive resources going into creating large homes, he decided to shift his focus. This prompted him to embark on a journey that continued to allow him to build high quality products for amazing clients, but to do so on a smaller scale, and in a more sustainable manner.
Our mission is to create living spaces that are built to last a lifetime, using local materials and trades wherever possible. Minimal waste production and creating a small carbon footprint are things we value highly, and strive to achieve on a daily basis.

Phoenix Domes is based on Phoenix Farm, Salt Spring Island.
Freyja built her first dome in 2016 - from scratch, flattening conduit piping with a floor jack against a trailer hitch... after much trouble shooting and a month of hard work, her 32' dome was erected as a summer living space and aerial arts studio. After her first cover blew apart in the wind and sun, she had to find a professional company to collaborate with to custom make a new cover. A new business relationship started...
Now Phoenix Domes is western Canada's first and only distributor of geodesic domes for events, dwelling and glamping!
You can check out demo domes on Phoenix farm and get a feel for what it would be like to own your own!
“Domes are the strongest, lightest and most efficient means of enclosing space yet known to man.” — R. Buckminster Fuller
Geodesic domes are composed of inter-connected triangles that lend superior structural strength. Father of the modern geodesic dome, Buckminster ‘Bucky’ Fuller, demonstrated the difference in strength between rectangles and triangles by applying pressure to both structures… the triangle proved to be twice as strong and remained rigid, while the unstable rectangle collapsed.
Buckminster Fuller won an award from the American Architectural Society for inventing the strongest structure known to man.

There are four primary types of prefab buildings. Standard prefab homes are much like stick-built homes, only built offsite. Prefab tiny homes are smaller wheeled living spaces, similar to RVs. Offices, studios, and bunkies are usually one room buildings used for work or extra sleeping, and usually don't have any plumbing. Guesthouses (or cabins, cottages, or ADUs) are similar to prefab homes but are usually made smaller to act as a second home, weekend getaway, in-law suite, or rental property. More details can be found in our Ultimate Guide to Buying a Prefab Home.
